Cover Battle: “House of the Rising Sun” May 10, 2013

The Animals’ original version was the only one I ever knew existed. It was kind of creepy and melodramatic yet kind of cool. Then, in watching my show, Sons of Anarchy (ha ha, you thought you were free from hearing about SOA until September, didn’t you?) they did a cover. And not just a straight cover, they actually changed the opening lyrics to work in the framework of the story being told.

I was initially taken aback by the alteration, but I quickly got on board. Because it worked. If it hadn’t I would’ve been all over that shite. Well, I probably would have just been silently indignant and ranting, on the inside. But I would have been annoyed, you know? The SOA track was deep and mournful, as befits the situation on the show, at this time.

The wonderful actress Katey Sagal (Gemma, on SOA. Oh yeah – once I start with the SOA stuff, it doesn’t stop) also does this song, with Battleme and The Forest Rangers. I think she actually sounds a lot like Dusty Springfield in certain parts.

Sinead O’Connor’s voice is lovely and angelic, but no less passionate. She still conveys those deep emotions of resignation and dread.

I’ve included a rare jam session version from the Beatles. The boys are obviously, um, … impaired, shall we say. Would have liked to hear a straight, sober version, if one exists.

I’m still too traumatized to think about anything else that happened.

Exactly 24 Hours from now … shite gets f**ked up in Charming September 10, 2012

Ridin’ through this world
All alone
God takes your soul
You’re on your own

The crow flies straight
A perfect line
On the devil’s path
Until you die

This life is short
Baby that’s a fact
Better live it right
You ain’t comin’ back

Gotta raise some hell
Before they take you down
Gotta live this life

Gotta look this world
In the eye
Gotta live this life
Till you die

You better have soul
Nothin’ less
Cause when it’s business time
It’s life or death

The king is dead
But life goes on
Don’t lose your head
When a deal goes down

Better keep your eye
On the road ahead
Gotta live this life

Gotta look this world
In the eye
Gotta live this life
Till you die

And now it’s time for the final chapter in this gripping non-adventure. (To relive all the thrills, chills and outrageous ranting go here and here)

Oh happy day!!!!

Now, let’s see — they charged me …????

Okay – they put through the original $39.96 charge, but they processed a credit because of the lower release date price. Yay!!

This little update was going to be much more scathing.

When I checked my account and saw $39.96 I was annoyed. My mind was full of “goddammits” and “fucking Amazon” and “sonsabitches”. Then I had the good sense (hey – sometimes I can be kinda smart) to check my email.

That’s better

Then this one:

Okay BOA, now it’s your move (or so I thought)

I checked my account this morning, still focused on the $39.96 and got ready to write this little ranting update. That’s when I actually looked at the bank transactions. BOTH of them.

The first time I looked I honestly didn’t even see the $19.97 credit. I was so fixated on “they better fix this and if they don’t there’s gonna be a bitchfest” that I didn’t take the time to stop and see what was right in front of me. The matter had already been handled. Sometimes you can be your own worst enemy.

Note to self: check thoroughly, think, then double check, before flying off the handle and giving yourself agita. #SMH. #sillykimmie

Amazon Anxiety August 31, 2012

Anyone who’s read this blog for awhile knows I like Sons of Anarchy. Alright fine: I’m obsessed with Sons of Anarchy

Season 5 premiere Tuesday, September 11, 2012 10 pm on FX.

The last episode of season 4 was broadcast December 6, 2011. I ordered the dvd on November 27, 2011. Well, preordered. It wasn’t scheduled to be released until August 28, 2012, but I knew that going in.

As it got closer and closer to the release date (and the season 5 premiere – yippee!!!) I was getting more and more excited. Then – August 28 arrives. On that day my Amazon order status changed from “Not Shipped” to “Shipping Soon”. Woo-sah!

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!!!

From past experience and being used to Amazon’s usually quick processing and shipping I figured I’d get it even before the delivery date or at least by September 4, the early end of the scheduled time frame. Plus, in checking my bank account the charge was “processing” for the amount of the order. Yay!

So every day I check the status. As of today 8/31/12 it still says “Shipping Soon”.

Really, Amazon? What’s the problem?? Please tell me, cuz you don’t want to make a SOA fan mad. Especially one from Jersey, yo. Just sayin’

I forgot to mention that the original preorder price was $39.96 which is fine. Then on issue date it goes down to $19.99. Cool, even better. Amazon has a thing where if the price changes between the time you pre-order and the time it’s shipped you get the lowest price. So, win-win. Even if I somehow got charged the original price, Amazon would have credited the difference back to me within 48 hours of shipment. [And even if they didn’t do it automatically, they certainly would have after I contacted them, if that were to be necessary.]

SOA. Jersey. Just sayin.

So anyway I check the item page and it says “In stock on September 3, 2012”

Excuse me?!

And now that “processing” charge that was showing on my bank account is not even processing. It just cleared. Which means I haven’t been charged because NOTHING’S BEEN SHIPPED YET!!!!

Amazon – you’re really cool and all, but right now you’re driving me a little batty. I want my dvd, you torturing bastards!!!!!!

Normally the premiere would be the first Tuesday of September (9/4) but it’s a week later (9/11 – I know, but what are you gonna do? It’s a date) FX is finally showing promos for the new season. It is insane how freaking happy that makes me.

Update regarding my previous Emmy post

While checking in to my viewing choices on Get Glue I got a new sticker:

It’s like the Emmy board is taunting me

Here we go again …

So, Emmy nominating committee –

This year you have no problem with old-time murdering gangsters

Boardwalk Empire

Meth dealers

Breaking Bad

Serial Killers

Damages, The Good Wife, Harry’s Law

Murderous, psychotic, raping Rubber men

American Horror Story

being up for Emmy’s this year, but you draw the line at gun-running, drug-muling outlaw bikers?

I’m not saying the current nominations aren’t deserved. I’m just saying how about some much overdue love for this masterwork from the twisted genius that is Kurt Sutter, huh? Ok – even if you don’t appreciate Kurt’s bluntness in calling a fucking douchebag cunt a fucking douchebag cunt how can you continuously be so blind to the exceptional writing and performing and directing and scoring and makeup and special effects of the show?

Arrrrrgh!!!! You Emmy people frustrate me so.
