Catching up on my magazines I came across this absolutely delicious piece of writing in an article entitled: The Man Who Came to Broadway
Not since the critic John Simon shuffled off into semi-retirement to give his fangs a long overdue rest has Broadway enjoyed a more hissable villain than the New York Post theater columnist Michael Riedel, who feasts on rumors of major productions about to go under like a vulture wearing a dinner bib.
James Wolcott, Vanity Fair, November 2012
I. Love. This. Sentence.
Vanity Fair is one of my favorite magazines. The articles are intelligent, in-depth and educational and expose me to a ton of things outside my own little corner of the world. They make me think and I do so enjoy the gorgeous photography within its pages. The current issue, I think, has absolutely outdone itself.
The cover girl for this issue is Kristen Stewart. Admittedly, I am not a fan of the whole Twilight series (sorry Janie), or any of the people involved but Kristen looks lovely and I did enjoy the interview. After finishing up with Kristen I turned the page and squealed. Seriously, I did. Look at this picture:
I can’t stop marveling at this collection of artists.
In the actual magazine there’s a Spotlight article in the upper right corner.
How incredible is this center spread? Let me count the ways:
(some of the my personal favorites and some of the finest in the world)
Mandy Patinkin, Jesse L. Martin, Blythe Danner, Lily Rabe, Jonathan Groff, Jerry Stiller, Anne Meara, Donna Murphy, Audra McDonald, James Earl Jones, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Meryl Streep, Kevin Kline, and Oliver Platt
The 50th Anniversary of Joseph Papp’s Shakespeare in the Park at the Delacorte Theatre.
Written by Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, Tony Kushner!
It’s like a perfect storm of artistic goodness. This is a true example of Art Porn.
And – there’s a video!
