Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam recently signed a bill that prohibited the state’s teachers from condoning “gateway sexual activity”. I guess in Tennessee condoning is synonymous with talking about it or you, know, even acknowledging its existence. ‘Cuz if we don’t talk about it, it doesn’t exist. You know like abortions, gay marriage and poor people.
*Whispers* Guess what? THEY STILL EXIST!!
From a recent HuffPO piece :
David Fowler, president of the Family Action Council of Tennessee, which pushed the bill, said it does not ban kissing or holding hands from discussion in sex ed classes. But he said it addresses the touching of certain “gateway body parts,” including genitals, buttocks, breasts and the inner thigh.
Whoo-wee. After having read that steamy little passage I’m getting hella horny and need to go out RIGHT NOW and touch some GBP. Hell, isn’t just being alive a gateway activity?
How can you have Sex Ed without mentioning the body parts involved? How about we just eliminate it all together? That way everybody can be ignorant. Serves ’em right! They can learn about this stuff the way their parents did – on the street, from their equally clueless friends (well, der, she won’t get pregnant if you only do it once. Um, maybe, I think), in the backseat of the car, in the barn, with their cousin or from their favorite goat.
Just because you don’t talk about these “gateway body parts” doesn’t mean kids won’t get curious or want to know more. Our Bodies, Our Selves, hello?! Kids will explore and discover and eventually figure out that Tab A (Penis) fits quite well into Slot B (Vagina). Or Slot C (Mouth) and/or D (Anus). And it feels really really good. If no one talks to them about the range of sexual behavior then how can you begin to explain the range of ways in which they can protect themselves from unwanted consequences like, oh, I don’t know – disease and – aw, man. What’s that other one that some people might not want? Oh yeah -pregnancy!
They say that the brain is the biggest sexual organ. If that’s true then anti-education laws (because that’s what this is basically, IMHO) like this just aim to lobotomize the population to make it easier to go along with this anachronistic bullshit.
