Cover Battle: “Oops, I think I did it again” May 31, 2013

Released in 2000, the original is classic Britney: head bopping beat with teen pop vocals, but super, super catchy; something you love to sing along with (but might not admit to). Britney before the crazy annulled Vegas marriage, the whole Kevin Federline thing, the shaved head or the umbrella brandishing thing. Back when Britney was young and innocent. Well, “not so innocent”. Ah, the good old days of the new millennium.

Richard Thompson is a British musician who I first heard through Sons of Anarchy. He gives a great performance and kind of elevates it to more than just a little disposable pop nugget. He also gives a surprising (and fun) scholarly analysis of the chord structure.

The Children of Bodom thing sounds a little scary and may just give me nightmares, but in the comments people seem to like it a lot. To each his own.

I found the last video by accident. It’s a fun little take by comedy writer Shek Baker. He’s doing the song as the “original”, performed by Louis Armstrong(!). Very cute.

Although often attributed to Nelson Mandela, this quote is actually from author Marianne Williamson. Sorry for adding to any confusion. Thank you to Willie Franklin for leading me to investigate this more. I appreciate that.
