What world is this? April 15, 2013
“Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent”
“Violence does, in truth, recoil upon the violent, and the schemer falls into the pit which he digs for another”
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
Two explosions at the Boston Marathon. Another one, maybe related, maybe not, at the JFK library, also in Boston. What the fuck is going on?
You can’t go out of your house because you might get blown up, shot in a drive by, or by police. You can’t stay in your house because somebody might break in and kill you or kidnap you or rape you, or torture you or … what the fuck kind of world is this?
I don’t understand why or how this is the normal course of events. You try to live a decent life, be a good person. Try to have faith in the general goodness of people, but the assholes and evil pricks are every- fucking-where. It takes away your emotional equilibrium and puts you on edge.
You can’t go anywhere, you don’t want to take a chance and talk to anyone or even try to fall in love because, hey – your beloved could be a fucking undercover psycho or spy or terrorist a-hole con artist mad man serial killer. Everyday life is just exhausting and highly unnerving.
On the other side – people helped. Without a moment’s hesitation. From the news footage I can see that people jumped right in to remove barricades, carry people to safety. Social media is tweeting info on how to find people in Boston, where you can go for phone service and a place to stay. And they’re also jumping on fucktards taking this opportunity to score political points (seriously, people? Get a fucking soul) or disseminate bad or unsubstantiated reports or outright lies. So that’s good, that’s heartening.
But still — it’s like … people fucking suck, though too. I don’t know what else to say right now. I just don’t.
If you pray then keep the people in Boston in your prayers and if you don’t just keep a good heart, hold your love ones and let’s all hope to be better humans to make up for the other ones.
