GARBAGE TRUCK
Lumbering through the street, early morning – before dawn
What little traffic there is, blocked by the behemoth
Brakes squeal, hydraulic compaction – crunching the remnants of civilization
Adding stench to our history of use (and abuse)
Waste – garbage –useless-unneeded-unwanted-disposed of-obsolete-incomplete
Orange-vested workers clanging and tossing
“CRASH” of cans “SMASH” – oops! bottles should be recycled in the blue bags not falling out of the white, clean up on avenue b
Waking before required, piles of refuse outside my window, this funky urban perfume assaulting & wrinkling my nose
Paper and plastic, juice boxes, old Chinese food. Wrapping and packaging and lives of rapid, rampant consumption
Here today, gone (somewhere else. And rotting) tomorrow
Landfill grows high, the bird buffet never ending
More choices than The Olive Garden and never a fee – just help yourself!
Keep eating, we’ll always add more
